600 Crescent

Information About the Home

This house is a bit of a mash up: the original home was built in 1911, then 2 back rooms with an opposite roofline were added in 1945 and it became a double during the post-war housing shortage. Then in 2009 I designed a purpose-built 2 story glass studio off the back of the house. Some Parksiders may even have seen the house before and after, having moved in in 2001.

The stained glass studio has a lofted interior space full of light and air. The 10 foot wrapping windows give the space and “outside-in” connection to the little backyard pocket garden, making it a great creative workplace. It doesn’t hurt that the concrete floor is heated; most inviting on a chilly winter day!

Having travelled quite a bit, for cultural adventure as well as for educational internships, there are a few windows that I made to mark some historical styles. Medieval, Victorian, Art Nouveau and Frank Lloyd Wright all have their examples.

The third floor also has a few travel mementos such as some ceremonial goat hair vests that 13 year old Turkish boys would use while dancing, a WW2 kamikaze pilot flag, a decorative Tibetan Chinese woman’s adornment, and a pyramid chest of drawers from Indonesia, (actually found in Nova Scotia!) I love examples of tribal and national costume and art.

Most of the house is furnished with antiques collected through the years, and every bit of floor has some large or small Oriental rug, (attesting to my true addiction) many purchased while on some trip abroad.
